Optimus Primal was the leader of the Maximals. He adopted his name from his famous ancestor Optimus Prime, who led the Autobots. Strong, courageous and sensible, Optimus earned the trust and respect from his Axalon crew that he deserved, especially after proving time and time again that he was able to lead them. Compassionate and always trying to think of what was best for his troops, Optimus tried not to make any rash decisions. During his leadership, he took in three Predacons (Dinobot, Silverbolt and Blackarachnia), accepting a challenge from Dinobot, a request from Silverbolt to join the Maximals and taking a risk on accepting Blackarachnia, who had nowhere else to go. His good nature and faith, although they could be seen as weaknesses in warfare, proved worthwhile in the end. Optimus had the beast mode of a Gorilla and changed style and structure three times. The second time he was ressurected as a transmetal, after he died saving Earth from an alien weapon that was about to destroy it. His final mode was that of Optimal Optimus, when in an attempt to save his ancestor (and in turn his and the futures of all the Maximals) he took in the spark of Optimus Prime. He managed to hold two sparks in his body, although this altered his form, giving him the size and strength of his ancestor. This added power helped him win control over the Ark and from there the battle continued until he was onboard the Nemesis, fighting Megatron in a battle that seemed hopeless. Optimus fought right until the end, his sheer determination inspiring Transmetal 2 Dinobot to download emergency data to the defenseless Maximals below, allowing them to have a fair fight. Fortunately for the Maximals, the emergency data gave them knowledge of a small shuttle, which ruined Megatron's plan for conquest and worked as their vessel home. Never losing hope, sacrificing himself (and coming back!) and fighting for what he believed was true, Optimus Primal proved an excellent leader for the Maximals in the Beast Wars.
