Hawaii is said to be re-honoring a species of fish which had lost its official state fish title in 1990 (due to expiry of the measure), but many people were unaware that its official status had been lost. The common name of this species of fish is the rectangular triggerfish, but its proper name is, in fact, the humuhumunukunukuapuaa (or "humuhmu", for short).

Now if that name sounds familiar to any of you who've been watching cartoons for years (even decades), you'd be right. In the classic WB cartoon short "Wackiki Wabbit", Bugs Bunny greets a pair of shipwrecked castaways on a place called "Humuhumunukunukuapuaa Island." I even had to check my Looney Tunes DVD to make sure my mind wasn't playing tricks on me.
Outtsyder, and all this time, I thought that was a made-up word...
