There was an article in my area's local paper -- not the larger daily ones that cover worldwide news and gets delivered to all of the greater Vancouver area; but the small free ones that get delivered every couple days covering the local events in Surrey only -- regarding the expanding state of the film industry around here. While other parts of the Greater Vancouver area are attracting more projects, Surrey is still pretty strong as far as film & TV productions are concerned; in fact,
Smallville was produced not-too-far from my district.
One of the city's representatives said he wasn't worried about other towns stealing a bite from Surrey's business, saying that "we don't try to compete with other communities", and while Surrey itself makes a modest cut from the business, the rep says its more about raising Surrey's visibility. And the article says this, taken verbatim....
"It's more about profile for the city, which has been the backdrop for movies such as
Catwoman."
Are these guys SURE that's the right way to raise our city's profile?
Outtsyder, as if the high rate of car thefts wasn't already bad enough....

"Power flows to the one who knows how. Desire alone is not enough."
