In or Out of Packaging

Unread post by SilverfromOZ »

Howdy ya'll. Its been a while since I've stirred up some trouble and I was flicking through the Collections thread by Beastly and saw a point raised by Beastbot... about Beast Wars Beastly collections of Beastliness (Yeah, I figured the word beast had entered the sentence twice, so run with it). Anyhoo, Beastbots point was I believe "dude, take your figures out of the package. Transformers are meant to be played with."

I fully, 100% agree with that statement. There is no figure too expensive, no toy to compicated #glares at MP Megs# and no ball joint too fragile to be popped back on that will stop me from mucking around with them. I had a mate previously who would transform them once and leave them trapped in a glass cabinet, frozen in time, never to see their vehicle modes again. This was thoroughly annoying as he would then come over to my place and start playing around with mine. So, what side of the line do you sit? Mint Condition or "I'm never gonna sell my collection anyway so I'm gonna enjoy it dammit!"
It's ok sir. I'll be fine...

Just listen to your commander, bonebrain!

T_T.....at leats you guys have them....

but i can definatey say that if i did have any TF toys, even though it would be all the time, id be messin around with them too. the only thing i have remotely close to TFs toys are the lollipop holders of G1 Megs and Prime

....and a stuffed white tiger i pretend is Tigatron....

...stop staring at me! i almost bought the ONLY BW toy i had ever seen IN MY LIFE in a miracle shop called Time Trek in my town in England.....but it was Spittor (????) and the only one they had, and the guy said they'd stopped getting BW stuff years ago

as for the lollipop holders, they are rock 'em, sock 'em type things and i have them duke it out weekly! last time it was me as Megs vs my friend as Prime...i lost. typical

(man, im in a type-a-lot mood today  )

I take mine out. My movie Starscream refused to come out for awhile but I forced him to. BWAHAHAHAA!

Anyway I don't exactly play with them. Unless taking pictures of them and making comics counts as playing. well I'm 20 and my family would give me weird looks if they saw me playing with them. Is it healthy for 20 year olds to be playing with toys?

I can't really answer that one. I have a lot of reasons. One to use in photo comics. Two because I'm collecting them. and 3.... I LOVE THEM ALL!

I take them out of the packaging. I don't really play with them much anymore though. Occasionally I'll play with them for a little bit but not that long. I do frequently use them for drawing reference though.

Out of packaging. Half of them came without a package. I used to keep most of them on my book shelve with other random things I have.

HELL YEEEEAH! Aside from showing that there is a healthy connection with your youth, toys (and Transofmers especially) are developmental tools which are used to hone skills of object manipulation, puzzle solving and creative output. And besides how else are you supposed to run around the living room shooting missles at your friends and family going "PATCHEW PATCHEW!!"

As for Beastbot's elegant elaboration, I'll put forward something that I recently realised about myself (If I perform alliteration once again, someone shoot me).

Every time a Transformers series comes out (Armada, Energon, Cybertron, the Movie) all of the figures are readily available. Now I love the Transformers toys because they are impressive, fun and generally sturdy. You've pretty much got a collection of model figures that can shift into various states and poses which are limited only to your own creativity. The thing is, when they first come out, they litter the shelves and I could easily drop the cash and buy the entire collection in one fell swoop, however I don't. I'll purchase the few that I really want: e.g. for the movie I only bought Prime and the voice changer mask (and bumblebee cause I stopped over in Singapore), but nothing more. Its only now that they have disappeared from the shelves that I am hunting and finding them here and there. On the south coast I located an Evac and Quickmix figure from the Cybertron line as well as Blackout, Ironhide and Barricade from the movie (all of which cannot be found on shelves here anymore). So the revelation (after that long winded explaination) is that I actually enjoy the chase. Its quite a parallel with the way I do most things in life (choosing the path less travelled and all that jazz (not the Autobot)). So it seems like I collect in a method of "You always want what you can't have." There's no better feeling... uhhh.... (wait there is, but this is still pretty good  ) than trawling through a dingy little toy shop in the middle of nowhere and pulling out a perfectly preserved Barricade figure, or diving into the rich source of figures at Botcon and finding the whackiest ones around #cough cough Heinland cough cough#

I'd also like to note the cuteness of Jagna playing with stuffed Tigatron #big hugs for the cute# As for the whole Spittor thing, if you refer to the way I collect things, I would have probably purchased it simply because it was the only one left, even if it was a character/figure that never really impressed me. Through this method, I have managed to obtain a collection with a lot of character. My original Metroplex is covered with ink from the toy line of white cars that you could colour in (if anyone remembers the line feel free to enlighten me with the name), my Rotorstorm is missing one of his guns, I have a Rampage with no head and Depth charge with half a tail and no gun. Needless to say, I love them all dearly (and will bring a list of things to buy when I go to the next Botcon). :D
It's ok sir. I'll be fine...

Just listen to your commander, bonebrain!

Addendum.... yesss Beastly I managed to obtain an MP Megs at Botcon. It is very shiny and impressive. Apparently there is some kind of club you can join now that will allow you to bring him into the country. Be forewarned, he is an overly complex figure and you cannot legally import it into Australia. There is some kind of club you can join which allows you to bring it in if you are that way inclined however I don't have the details on me at the moment.

Spittor is one of the coolest out there. I seem to have misplaced mine though. Ah, he'd probably show up if I searched under my bed.
