Garry Chalk won't attend ANY future Transfromer Cons!

Unread post by Renegade_Artist »

Hi guys. I’ve learnt from a viable source that Garry Chalk, who we know and loads of us love, as Primal and G2 Optimus Prime will cease to attend ALL Transformers conventions. Zip. Zada. Ziltch. No More.

The source goes by the name of William, a fellow Vancouverite and acquaintance of Garry. Another member of this forum, OOP (Candice) can 100% vouch for me that this source is the real deal. William posted the following on Garry’s Yahoo Group in response to my comment on the UK Cons being cancelled. Imagine my shock when i got this instead!

(link to screencap of said post, summary below)

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q312 ... mspost.jpg

Hi All

I was talking to Garry tonight. What he said was that because of the
way him and the other voice actors from the Transformers were treated
in regards to the new movie that they were not going to do anymore
conventions for them. He did say that he would miss seeing some of you
people at them but it is something that had to be done. Can you blame
him? That might be why some of the Transformers conventions are
cancelled

William

Garry is a man of principles and his pride has obviously been wounded; so like many I truly understand the reasoning behind this drastic action. Also, knowing how the enterainment industry can be callous and to be honest… idiotically tactless, the decision from the powers-that-be probably wasn’t delivered to Garry and other VA's in the way it should have been. :(

But as Trans-Fans, and especially as Beast Wars fans, we need to persuade him otherwise and sway his decision! We need to show him that even though he is no longer part of present Transformers canon, he still remains in high regard and is appreciated by the fandom! To many of us, he is and always will be an integral part within the Transformers universe, and is more than welcome by us at any Trans-Con.

So, what I propose is this. We spread the word, tell as many Trans Fans as we can, and if I can tally up enough followers, in a future point in time we all mass-mail his agency and/or his email address (Which I have in my possession) to persuade Garry (courteously, NO flaming) to reconsider his decision of not attending future Trans-Cons.

What do you guys think? We’ll never know until we try, am I right? Its time we let our voices be heard. If you’re interested, leave a message here, PM me or email me at Jam-Static@hotmail.com

Also, I was thinking about a name for this. How about; The Garry Trans-Con Rally? :)

Because David still has an active role in the Transformers canon, hes playing Prime in the new 'toon. Also, David is not Garry; he probably feels complety different towards the whole thing, no issues or anything...

No offense taken, ya've got every right to be sceptical, i usually would be.
But I honestly believe its reliable, yeah. I'm not really the type to shoot my mouth off without thinking its true... there are a couple of people I can ask to confirm it, ill see what i can do..

Garry told me this a few e-mails ago but I didn't want to bother him about it over and over again. I was going to ask him if he'd still at least attend the StarGate conventions even though SG-1's over (what a disappointing series finale that was!) and it was lead to believe that Garry's character went down with his ship, but I'm waiting for a reply from my last e-mail, which could be a while.

I personally don't want to get on his case about it since he feels so strongly but he had also given me other reasons about why he would seldom attend, if at all, that William didn't mention. However, because Garry loves his fans, I'm sure something of significance from a large group would hopefully reverse his opinion.

Speaking of David Kaye and acquiring his Optimus Prime role, he said so himself exactly what Garry told me about David getting the part, and that has to do with David becoming a US citizen and legal stuff with our government and moving to LA. It was something that Garry just couldn't do because he's Vancouver-based. But it did put a damper on his feelings about being involved in Transformers. At least, that's how I read his e-mail. At the BotCon, David said they already wrapped up the second season of the new TFs cartoon, so it's well under way along with Tara Strong, Tom Kenny, and a few other voices he rattled off. During two out of four of David's panels that I was at, people kept mentioning Garry and wished he had been there as well, so it wasn't just me.
What he said was that because of the way him and the other voice actors from the Transformers were treated in regards to the new movie that they were not going to do anymore conventions for them.
As for what William said, it sounds more like Garry has spoken to some other voice actors (not all) that feel the same way, not that he's speaking for them. But I don't know, I didn't hear it from him. Yet. I told him I have no other way to see him, which saddens me, but since I kind of know him on a somewhat personal level (not as personal as William, of course), he gave suggestions in which we might bump into each other. They seem far off but that's why I'm not giving up on the StarGate conventions. I'm curious, though, as to who the other voice actors are that might be included.

GARRY AT THE NEXT BW GATHERING!!! That's my suggestion. Hell, if he wants a five star hotel I'd be willing to put some cash towards that. Garry, Scott, Venus, etc. Perhaps they would be interested in an Aussie Gathering where they can get some beach weather and a good holiday in... well OOP pass on from one crazy Australian to a rockin Canadian that even though I love Pete's work, Garry's is just as legendary.

I would also like to point out that anyone who attacks the work done by anyone in the Beast Wars series because of its "not being proper transformers" should be given over to the hands of Jigsaw from the Saw movies and given the punishment they deserve.

If anyone does get a chance to talk/email Garry please let him know that we all love him and the work he's done but most importantly tell him he needs to get out to a convention where I'm at so he can sign my dinosaur head. (For those who haven't seen it I'll post some pics with a full write up when I get back home).
It's ok sir. I'll be fine...

Just listen to your commander, bonebrain!

Yes dear...

yes we must have the whole BW cast to a BW INT Gathering. Then we can get Ben to show up and have our own super secret con.

(Beyond that I really want to meet Gary he's done some fine voice work for Optimus for such a long time and is quite the actor in his own right.)

Awe. It's so nice to see that you guys care. I, and perhaps RA, will tell him what you've said as soon as possible. It'll probably bring a tear to his eye.

Will do Silver! You know, he's been to Australia before (perhaps more than once) and might know his way around in your area. He told me he was there when we were walking around in Louisiana at the MechaCon because I told him I couldn't believe he knew exactly how to get back to our hotel after the taxi had dropped us off downtown. I'm absolutely horrible with navigation and I get lost VERY easily. So he went into his little speel about navigating himself around Australia and loving it. I wish I could do that! XD

 Word, homie-g, yo! I had come across an old topic on some TFs board not long ago about people talking about who should voice Prime in the new movie. EVERYone said Peter was their first choice. I was kind of hurt because I really wanted to hear Garry behind the legendary tractor trailer truck on the big screen, and David right along side of him for Megatron. But they did say if they couldn't get Peter, then Garry would be would be their second choice. Someone also said that they hated Garry's version of Optimus; that he sounded like he was reading from a card. They obviousloy haven't seen Beast Wars because he played he best Optimus on there. Luckily someone had corrected that person's post saying that was the dubbing and there was no room for personalizing the character, which is exactly what Garry says all the time. Der! Silly people. Well, there's really nothing anyone can do about the new movies now anyway. I'm just glad they used at least ONE voice actor from a series so fans can relate and enjoy the movie.
(For those who haven't seen it I'll post some pics with a full write up when I get back home).
Oh, oh! I wanna see! XD
(Beyond that I really want to meet Gary he's done some fine voice work for Optimus for such a long time and is quite the actor in his own right.)
Awesome, Baron. I'll have to tell him that he has a long way to go before he's done meeting all of his fans. XD

O_o What, no Gary at future 'Cons?? That's not right! He HAS ta be there cuz I wanna see Mr. Optimus Primal!!!!!

... And I wanna see Nurann meet him too.

But seriously, he's been the Voice Of Optimus for Beast Wars, Armada, Energon AND Cybertron. I watched the old TF series Robots in Disguise awhile back and it was so WEIRD not to hear Gary! As far as I'm concerned, he IS Optimus Prime/al, because even though Mr. Cullen was the original Gary's got him beat in serieses.

Tell him he's gotta come back! I may not be the World's Biggest Primal fan but still, WE LOVE YOU GARY!!!!!!!

Yeah, He has such a commanding yet calm, gentle voice that was perfect for the role Optimus Primal!

Yep! Gary hasn't meet the whole fanclub yet :D

Right on, Starath! You know, my mom said the same thing along those lines. "Garry's been voicing Optimus the longest now. Peter had his chance and he abandoned the show." A little harsh because I like Peter but Garry certainly has been much more involved for a longer time now and the younger fans recognize his voice more. Oh well. We still love him. I'm just glad they didn't fudge up the movie or the characters.
Tell him he's gotta come back! I may not be the World's Biggest Primal fan but still, WE LOVE YOU GARY!!!!!!!
Will do, Starath! I'm going to copy and paste all these comments and send them to Garry via e-mail. But keep adding them because it may be a few weeks or so until he gets back to me from my previous e-mail. I could send him another but I try not to flood people's mailboxes with several e-mails when I could just patiently wait to combine it in one later. *shrug*

I know, I love his voice. It was perfect for Primal and perfect for a brand new TFs series after the first. Though I must admit, after hearing Peter's Optimus again, I love that deep, controlled voice as well. Of course that went better for the movie Prime because he was so tall and commanding.
Yep! Gary hasn't meet the whole fanclub yet

well, OOP, if you are indeed sending him an email, then please send him this:

DON'T GO!!!!!!!!!!

tell him we love him and that there are still some unfortunate saps (such as myself) who have never been to a BotCon or anything close and are dying to meet him. Not only was he awesome as Primal, but it would be soooo cool to see Colonel Chekov in person. He has this aura around him, that anybody would be luck to bask in. I only know a few people like that, and from what i've heard about him, he fits the criteria perfectly. sniff. one day, i will go....and he MUST be there! does he have a dog? how much does he love it?  kidding. i would never do that

anywel, overall message, WE LOVE GARY!!!!!!!!!! 'nuff said
