Good Bad 80s Cartoons

Unread post by SilverfromOZ »

Righto well with the wellspring of other series which are being credited, I'd like to truly display how much of a relic I am and reminisce over the true origin of the Beast Wars cartoons. Namely the original Transformers series and others from that era. I'm just going to throw a few titles out there and if anyone remembers, likes or just wants to give this crazy guy some company feel free to add series or join in the rant. OK here are a couple of them:

1)G.I. Joe (it was obvious and probably the least archaic)
2) Samurai Pizza Cats
3) Teknoman (if ANYONE remembers this I will go crazy because there are only two other people that I know who watched this series)
4) Battletech
5) Count Duckula (yep it has nothing to do with Transformers and such but it was such a fun series)

OK that'll do for now. Enjoy.
It's ok sir. I'll be fine...

Just listen to your commander, bonebrain!

 ZOMG Samarai Pizza Cats!!!!!!!!

I LOVED that show!!! I was very young when it played on some channel I can't remember anymore.

"Remember, you can give a Catatonic, but you can't make him blink!"

xD I loved the narrator. He was so much fun. I have audio tapes of the theme song (recorded like 20 times), the launching sequence, and other odds 'n' ends. I thought Big Cheese was hilarious. He had to explode once an episode. And I admit it. I had a HUGE crush on Badbird. He was SO CUTE. Kinda like Starscream, only this was before I was aware of Transformers. He was a lot more successful than Starscream, too.

In fact, I believe I owe my love for writing to the Pizza Cats. My first fanfic was based on them. I wrote it in sixth grade. I still have it, too. It's so horrible lol. I even had my own character named Pussywillow. xD

*reminices*

... *and debates how to correctly spell above word*

.... *and gives up*

Yeah it was great stuff. I've got a couple of epsiodes on DivX but haven't had a chance to sit down and watch it properly yet. But soon, there will be much laughter to be had. :D

I'm interested to know if the Samurai Pizza Cats were originally a Japanese cartoon which was made funny(er I suppose) when it was dubbed in English or if it was orginially concieved to be a parody of Japanese cartoons.

Yeah Badbird was so much more edgy and.. well.. Bad.. than Starscream with his whiny "MEEEEGATRON!! I SHOULD RULE" before being kicked in the head/chest/groin by Megatron.

Thats cool. I used to write stuff at about the same time and then they ripped creative writing out of English and that really killed the subject for me. I despised essays because of the lack of creative freedom. I remember writing things based on series I was watching at the time. I never really had the element of humor that the SPCs had, but the concept was there. :D

The dub for the Samurai Pizza Cats (yes, it's an anime) was very different from the original version-- the dub writers kept to the major plot points, but pretty much wrote their own script.

Come to think of it, I think SPC was on in the morning right before Beast Wars... :D I loved me some Pizza Cats.

*daydreams*

Samurai Pizza Cats was flatout awsome. Although, unfortunately, I only have vauge memories of it...

Was SWAT Cats 80's? Or was that early 90's?
Is the answer to this question "No"?

Crab: I believe SWAT Cats was an early 90's cartoon. I could look it up to be sure, but, at the moment, I'm feeling lax to do so.

Silver: Well, the two I'm sure I saw are G.I. Joe and Battletech, and I think I may have possibly seen an episode of Samurai Pizza Cats. Maybe.

G.I. Joe I wasn't all too interested in and only watched it a few times. Battletech, on the other hand, I do remember trying to catch whenever I could, which was rarely due to it's odd time slot. It was the first giant robot universe which I saw that featured giant, piloted mechanoids. Because of it, I went on to acquire the Mechwarrior games (which are based on the Battletech 'verse) which eventually lead to the discovery a few years later of the fact that the Battletech universe was originally and still was/is a table-top miniatures board game from the early 80's.

I could write more on the subject, but, I'll keep it short and say I'm quite a fan of the B'tech universe, but not so much of the cartoons anymore. Mostly because I found out as well that the cartoons were dumbed down by quite a bit from the original fiction it was based on. Though, that is not to say there are not any nostalgia moments within them for me to indulge in.
Yup. This is the area where one generally puts their signature....

I remember there was a series called James Bond Jr. It was alright when I was a kid, but it gets on my nerves now. There was also The Smoggies and I recall the Smurfs as well, although now (thank you Family Guy and Robot Chicken) I think of swear words when they say the word Smurf.

I might have some '80's cartoons mixed up with some '90's since the only thing I remember is that I was really, really young when I watched them. Right now I don't have the time to investigate the years they were aired but I'll rattle some off anyway.

LoL The Samurai Pizza Cats! I remember that cartoon. Swat Cats were awesome, too. And the Centurians.

I remember watching David the Gnome when I was little. That cartoon rocked. Swift the fox was the coolest.

Johnny Quest is pretty old, isn't it?

Biker Mice From Mars! I remember that one.

The GhostBusters cartoon. The old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon. Inspector Gadget! I used to watch that all the time. Shirt Tales (or Tails?) was another. Looney Tunes, of course, will always be awesome, but was that '80's or earlier? o.O

The Smurfs, and The Snorks! What about the Flintstones and the Jetsons?

The Little Bits

Popples had a cartoon, right? I remember having a stuffed animal Popple but can't really remember the cartoon. And there was Rainbow Bright and My Little Pony. The Ant and the Aardvark and Speed Racer.

Okay, that's all from me for now. XD

Yay!
I don't think anyone around here liked or ever heard of those cartoons before, so I barely have someone I can discuss them with...
Those were a few cartoons I grew up with.
90's cartoons.
Scooby Doo, The Flintstones and The Jetsons are a few 80's.

I think Gargoyles and Bonkers are both 90's, but those are my other favorite cartoons as a kiddie. Never watched the Jetsons much....yeah, Gargoyles. Couldn't get enough. Actually, I watched G1 Transformers, but I don't remember a darned thing about it. My bro was the one who loved G1 as a kid, and whatever he liked, I liked. Including TMNT....eeee....love da turtles.

Jagna:  That's awesome. I have to admit, though, I don't remember that much about most of them. >.< No, I can't say that I watched Wildfire or Lady Lovely Locks. I want to say they sound kind of familiar but I'm pretty sure I never saw them. Sorry to disappoint. :?
OMG, OOP, you like Biker Mice from Mars, Centurions and Johnny
Quest??
LoL I used to. I'd watch them again if they were on. Well, maybe I'd skip JQ because it wasn't as cool as BMFM or the Centurions. LoL Unfortunately, I don't remember too much from BMFM. :( But I know I watched it. At least I remember a bit from Centurions, heh.
My bro was the one who loved G1 as a kid, and whatever he liked, I liked.
Here, here, Yachi! I'm so grateful to have a brother. I followed him with TV just as much as it sounds like you did with yours. I know I'd be a totally different person if I didn't have him. He got me into tons of shows and cartoons, and we can't wait to see the new Tfs movie this summer. XD

Ah, Gargoyles. I believe it was my older sister that got me into that one. I loved Lexington and Bronx. :D The Genesis game for that cartoon was neat too.

I loved Bonkers!!! XD

I only really got into the old TMNT cartoon. I don't care for the new ones at all for some reason. I don't know. I'm just old school about some cartoons I guess.  The NES game for the Turtles was evil. XD

Ugh...yes!! I loved everythin' TMNT but that game! I was only a little kiddie, but it was so hard, it was nuts! And then when my bro finally got to the end, the final boss Shredder was a little pushover! Man...the 90's. But yeah...:P

Did you guys ever watched the Thundercats, I believe they're 80's stuff, also the Silverhawks and the mutant ninja turtles. I do recall some sort of cartoons about dinosaurs - Dinosaucers I think they were called that way, and Dinoraiders, both dinosaur oriented cartoons but sci-fi at the same time. I got the chance to watch some G1 and I liked a lot. Actually the name transformer was the main reason that moved me into watching Beast Wars. Just about everything that was kind of sci-fi was (and still is) appealing to me. I also used to watch the street sharks but they where more 90's as well as the gargoyles.

P.D.
Sorry if I misspelled the names but some of them were brought to Mexico translated.
