Enemy at the Gate
By: Sapphire

When I was five
My Grandfather taught me to shoot
My first target was a wolf
I lay in wait in the snow
My Grandfather beside me
The wolf came into view
My grandfather hissed to fire
I'm trembling with nerves and fear
I won't shoot
I try
But I'm too late

When I was 26
War broke out and it was my duty
To defend the Motherland
I became a sniper
And the Germans sent their own to take me down
I lay in wait for him in the abandoned store
He's quicker and sharper
And I don't shoot
Because I'm trapped
But a friend helped my escape

I'm inside an old shed
In an abandoned city with my comrade near by
My enemy is close and I'm waiting for him
My comrade is tired of life
and the war
And he gave away my enemy's position
By leaving his cover and getting shot in the head
I can't shoot
My friend is dead

It's now or never
I will not let his death be in vain
My enemy thinks he's shot me
He walks out in the open while I move 'round the back
He's heading toward the shed when he hears me
He freezes and makes no attempt to escape
And I finally shoot dead
My enemy at the gate
