Scheming, clever and enigmatic, this insane Predacon scientist proved interesting right throughout the Beast Wars series until his demise in the episode "Other Victories". Tarantulas was part of Megaton's original crew and he worked as a scientist, developing new weapons and devices for the Predacons. Forever treacherous, this tarantula always had another agenda. He is responsible for reprogramming Blackarachnia, originally a Maximal protoform, as a Predacon (the intention was that she was to serve as a partner for Tarantulas, but the two had their differences and Blackarachnia proved as treacherous as he!) Tarantulas even had his own lair where he developed things in secret. When the planet was hit with the after effects of the quantum surge and certain transformers went transmetal, so did he. However, his body wasn't fully functional and in a proper state for him to use. It turned out that when unconscious (due to reasons seen in "Other Voices") Blackarachnia entered his mind to try and get information. He managed to create a psychic link between them which allowed him later to control Blackarachnia. She restored his body for him and Tarantulas returned to the Beast Wars, a powerful transmetal complete with a vehicle mode. He still had a psychic link with Blackarachnia which added an interesting slant to both characters. The link was destroyed by Blackarachnia later in the series. His true identity was revealed in "The Agenda" when an agent of the Tripredicus came down to stop Megatron. Ravage was his name and he introduced Tarantulas to Megatron as Lieutenant Tarantulas of the Predacon secret police (a mole in Megatron's organization!). Tarantulas continued to be a shadowy figure (always scurrying into the dark, as Megatron put it) and when the aliens (the Vok) returned to Earth again, his hatred for them reached a point of insanity when he tried to control Tigerhawk an emissary of the Vok. This led to his unfortunate destruction in "Other Victories". Even after his death Megatron discovered his lair and found out what Tarantulas had been up to (the spider had uncovered the remains of the Nemesis, a powerful Decepticon ship). Megatron gained a lot of power from Tarantulas' schemes and plans and he very nearly won the Beast Wars as a result. Some fans liked him, others did not. Either way, he will always be remembered as a crazy tarantula with a tendency to cackle. Quote:
