Persephone Reborn

By: Lady Venom

Disclaimer:  The passages used belong to L.J. Smith from the story The Forbidden Game (I recommend reading it!) And Megatron belongs to Hasbro, despite both his and Starath's complaints.  Also, for those not familiar with Greek mythology; more specifically, Persephone and Hades, scroll down to the bottom, and I'll explain it before you read this. And to Starath, I hope I got it right this time ^_^!

" I told you.  I fell in love with you.  I didn't do it on purpose… Light to darkness… Darkness to light.  It's always been that way…"

"Suppose the devil was quietly minding his business - when he saw a girl.  A girl who made him forget everything.  There've been other girls more beautiful, of course - but this girl had something .  A goodness, a sweetness about her.  An innocence.  Something he wanted."

  "To destroy it."

"No, no.  To cherish it.  To warm his cold heart.  Even a poor devil can dream, can't he?"

Megatron placed the book gently back in its spot on the crammed shelf.  He had caught Starath reading the same page for some time, and when she had finally book marked it and left for the shower, his curiosity had gotten the better of him.  After scanning the pages it wasn't hard to find the passage that interested her.

Oh, yesss, he thought.  A devil can dream.  Even if he already has his Persephone, there is always the threat of Demeter.  Who could reclaim her lost child at any chance that is given.

And who then, would bring the colors of the world above into the shadow tinted world he called life?

He looked toward the bathroom where Starath showered.

But I did not take you by force, like the Hades of lore.  Did I?  After all, you came to me.  Your smile showing that there is truly life after death, even if I had never been born.  Perhaps this is what makes the widow act like she does around the others.  Although, from personal experience I have found that you never turn your back on a black widow spider.  Because to her, you are only there to spawn children, and then feed them.

The sudden image of Silverbolt and Blackarachnia caused him to chuckle.

Moving to the kitchen, Megatron grabbed the bag of flour from the cupboard, preparing to make breakfast for him and Starath, when a final thought popped in his head.

I never used trickery to win you.  No seeds of a pomegranate, no little lizard to fool you into eating my food.  He started to mix the other ingredients in a large bowl.

Starath emerged from the shower humming a sweet little tune to herself.  So far, there had been no big accidents with Megatron or the other Predacons, which was nice.  Pulling on a pair of faded denim jeans and a purple shirt, she pulled her hair back in a clip.  Not really feeling like blow-drying it right away.

Walking down the hallway she could smell something burning.  Running, she skidded to a halt right by the island in the kitchen and stared at the batter splattered Megatron, who ducked his head meekly and held out a tray for her.  On it she recognized half - burnt blueberry pancakes, some toast and a tall glass of orange juice.

"Megs I - " She took the tray.

"I felt like making you breakfast, so go relax and I'll clean up the mess."

Shocked, but smiling she took her tray of slightly smoking food to her bedroom to eat while she read.  Pulling out a book, she found her spot and began reading…

"He was evil.  Cruel, capricious, and dangerous as a cobra.  A prince of darkness.

"Completely evil - and completely in love with her…"

Okay, Persephone is the daughter of Demeter and Zeus.  Persephone, because her mother is the Goddess of the seasons, carries with her a little paint box in which to color the flowers of her homeland.  One day, while painting a bush of roses, Hades (God of the Underworld) saw her, and instantly fell in love with the bright, cheerful girl.  And he opened up the very earth and in a chariot pulled by black stallions he came up and took her back to his world, against Persephone's wishes.

Demeter, became beside herself with worry for her daughter, and would not make the crops grow, and brought cold winter to the land until the return of her daughter.  In the underworld, Persephone had only to eat the food of the underworld, or drink from it and she would be bound to live there for an eternity.  Down there with her was a little boy that had been turned into a lizard by Demeter for stealing food from her farmers.  Once the lizard found out that this was Demeters daughter, he tricked Persephone into eating three seeds from her favorite food.  A pomegranate.

Those three seeds sealed her fate, and Hades had won.  She was forever doomed to live there with her new king, as Queen of the Underworld.  But her mother would not bring back prosperity to the land of Greece until she knew her daughter was safe.  And so, Zeus made a deal for Persesphone.  She was to stay in the Underworld for only three months of the year, (the same number of seeds that she ate from the Pomegranate) and that the rest would be spent with her mother.

That's the basics of the Greek myth.
