I will live again

& Omicron the IceQueen

Authors’ note: We don’t own Beast Wars, but IceQueen owns her self.

Depth Charge swam as hard as he could.  This would not happen again.  Not to her.  NOT to her.

Omicron gripped her dragon pendent, how could she be so stupid?!  She let go, trying to get out of the thing Megs clamped on her leg.  It was holding her under, keeping her from the life giving air that was drifting farther and farther away as she sank deeper.

"Omie!" He called, looking for her.  She didn't give off a signature...

She could just make out a form above she moved, tried to make a sound with out letting her breath go.

Depth Charge look down!!  Please!

His audios, specially designed for superb hearing listened for abnormal sound -- there!  A muffled sound, he heard it!  But from where?

"Omie!"

Look down you slagger! I'm RIGHT here!

He felt a rush of bubbles hit his stomach and looked down. "OMIE!" Depth Charge pumped his fins, flying down to her and transforming.

Her eyes went wide as her lungs burned with a kind of fire she didn't know was possible.

He yanked at the thing around her ankle, breaking it.  The pressure down here was too much for the human that he knew.

The young queen tried to hold her breath in, but the FIRE!

He grabbed her and kicked on his jets, scared to death.  NOT her.  NOT again.  Please, no!

A burst of bubbles came out of her noose and mouth.  The queen jerked as she automatically sucked in water.

He burst through the surface, cradling the human that had become his best friend. "Omie?  No!" He flew to land and set her down. She'd breathed water.  Humans couldn't do that. "Omie!"

Blush green eyes stared at him as her left hand curled like a claws.  Those eyes unfocused then glazed over as she relaxed.

"No!" He screamed, putting one of his hands on her chest. "Omicron, don't you do this..." He GENTLY pressed down with his hand, trying not to break her breastbone…Water was pushed out of her mouth, but that was all.  What in Primus' name did she tell him about the thing called 'CPR'?!

His mouthpiece was awful big compared to her face, but he remembered what she'd told him. Leaning down, he at least attempted to get her to breathe by herself again, breathing for her, and then pushing on her chest three times.

(Authors’ notes:

Queen: EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!  DC kissed me!!! *faints*)

LDC: LMAO He's giving you CPR, you sick-o!

Queen: *evil grin* so? )

How many times did he have to do this?  Slagit!  Omicron’s skin had a bluish tinge to it and, even though she dies part of her hair blue and green, humans are NOT supposed to be that color!

"Omie, wake up!" He cried and tried again. This couldn't be happening. He swore he'd protect her. Omicron in ruins flashed before his mind's eye, making him near panic. "C'mon, Omie...BREATHE, SLAG YOU!"

Omicron's back arch a little and her eyes focused on what was in front of her.  For a moment, nothing happened.  Then she half gasped half choked, unable to get rid of the water that was still in her lungs.

He arched his head back, pushing a little harder on her chest. "breathe!"

She turned her head to the side, some where in the far back of her mind she made a note to tell the ray latter to turn people over.  She lifted her right hand, trying to roll over so she could throw up. He saw what she wanted and turned her gently.

"Come on, Omie...." He watched worriedly, still frightened. Was she going to die..? She couldn't...she couldn't leave him alone..

Her body shuttered and she lost not only seawater and what seemed yesterday dinner...then she gasped holding her broken sides in pain.  But...she was breathing...!  Her chest and stomach tightened and she threw up one last time.

"That's it, Omicron...come back..." He gently patted her back, remaining in his squatting position. His ruby eyes watched her carefully. "Keep it up.."

"Oh...good...gods..." she muttered, letting her body relax as she gasped the slightly salty air, but it smelled and tasted so good.  Then, quite out of character, she cursed.  Borrowing something she heard Depth Charge say some time ago.

He kept patting her, but took his hand away as soon as she let fly that word.  He narrowed his optics, "Not very befitting of such a pretty young terrain girl, Omie..."

"Fraggit, I can once in a bit." She wavered, but her skin was getting its tan back.  She whimpered trembling a little "I wan'na go home..."

"Just do me a favor and keep breathing." He ordered gently as he brushed a bit of her hair out of her face.  "We'll go in a minute." Depth Charge slipped his arms beneath her and cradled her gently, sitting down on the spot, rocking her to calm her.

She leaned against the massive Maximal, her gasps slowing into a easer rate, but there was still an ache in her chest.

"How do you feel? Anything broken?"

"My ribs are killing me and," She rose a hand to her breastbone. "That's not much better..."

"Well...I tried to be gentle." He looked at her sheepishly and continued. "But we'll have Rhinox take a look when we get back, okay?"

Omicron looked down at her left ankle, it was bleeding a little but nothing bad. "Yeah..." she pressed her face against Depth Charge's armor.  She only did that when she was scared of something.  Mostly, he found that that happened when there was a spider near by

He held her a bit tighter, wings wrapping around to create a protective bubble. "What's the matter?"

"OOO!! DC my RIBS!  (gasp!) Careful!" Her eyes widened as her chest caught fire.

He made a small sound of surprise, letting go almost completely. "I'm sorry!"

Omicron winced holding her sides, "Can we...just go home...please...?"  She looked up at him; her eyes had a little shadow, but had the light back in them.

"Yes, we can." He stood up, holding her as gently as he could as he kicked on his wing-mounted hover jets and headed towards the base.

Omicron hid her face from the wind and just relaxed as best she could.  It would okay...right?  She closed her eyes, why was that ache still in her chest?

They flew in silence, DC in silent fear the whole time. He sensed -- he could sense, thank to his beast mode instincts -- that something was wrong with her, other than the broken ribs and cracked breastbone. He wondered if she could feel how frightened he was, as he landed in front of the blast doors and jerked them open. "Rhinox!" He growled, stalking into the command bridge.

"Ow." Was her response to both the jolt and his tone, even hurting she was still trying to ease Depth Charge's temper, he never stayed mad or sour long when she made it known she was in pain.  The other Maximals seemed to like her for that.

Rhinox looked up from the computer.

Depth Charge stomped into the bridge. "Omie's hurt. Come look at her," was all he said, and brought her back to his quarters.  There was no medic ward here...it would have to do.

"OW! DC! Be CAREFUL!" It seemed Omicron was get better mentally, if one was to go be the way she was glaring at her guardian.  And Rhixon was partly as he walked after the two.  All the time Omicron was telling the ray off.

Maybe, the rhino bot thought, she's not that bad off after all.

He rolled his optics and shook his head. "I'm doing the best I can, human!"

She couldn't help but grin, "Well do better Robot!"  Rhinox hoped the two wouldn't get into another 'fight', at least not when he was there.

Depth Charge snorted and set her down on his metal bed, GENTLY...The girl could both get under his skin the wrong way when she wanted, yet at the same time could be the best thing to the ray.  That let her get away with saying or doing things (like pranks) to him that would have gotten any one else badly hurt (if they were lucky).

She let the Maximal look her over, hissing once.

Depth Charge stood up and sat on his desk, absentmindedly swinging a foot to and fro as he waited for Rhinox to finish.

Rhinox smiled at the girl, cupping one hand on the side of her face, "You'll be fine, just don't breath to deeply.  I'll see if I have something for the pain."

"Thanks' man." Omicron gave the two her trademark grin, and gripped her dragon pendant.

Depth Charge nodded to the rhino as he left, then turned to Omicron, crying, "WHAT happened out there?!"

She winced and rubbed her head, "Let's just say, Megs doesn't like me any more."

"Did he ever?"

Omicron just smirked up at him in a way that said she knew something no one did.

"Omie.." He eyed her. "Gimme the whole story."

"Umm.................no." She grinned and  'fell' back onto her back fighting back painful laughter,  “Ehehehe..... Turkeys! Heheheheh...."

"Omie...I can't protect you unless I know all the facts."

"IT WAS THE SMURCKER! ...oh that hurt..." she gasped but grinned as she looked over at her friend, "Sorry, long story.  I don't hehehehe want to get into it right now.  Lets just say my plan back fired in my face."

Depth Charge sighed deeply, leaning back.  He was tired.  He'd been on two straight 24-hour patrol shifts. "Yeah....sure.." He looked down at his hands.

A pause.

"Hug?"

To Omicron, hugs helped and fixed every thing.

He looked up. "Don't ever do that to me again."

She looked away, the ache was getting a little bigger.  "Sorry...no more stupid plans with turkeys."

"Thank you. You know how much I care about you."

"Pardon?" She'd like to hear that again. Omicron didn't look at him, if she did he'd known what she was doing.

"You heard me, you little human." He slid off of his desk and sat by her. The metal berth shuddered with his weight.

She looked up at him, "Pardon?" Okay, it might not work any more but you can't blame her for trying.

He ignored her and lifted his foot, setting it on the bed and resting his arm on his knee.  He sat there, looking just plain cool.

A giggle could be heard.

He looked at her. "What?"

Another giggle. "Nothin’!"

"Right. How you feeling?"

"Like I fell of a cliff."

"Might as well have." He couldn’t help but look at her, optics full of worry.

Omicron just grinned in that way only she could before pushing herself up. Which only earned her a greater look of worry.

"Ow." and moved so she could lean on her guardian’s side, eyes closing in contentment.

"You shouldn't move." Depth Charge rumbled as he took his arm and put it around her.

"Hmm...ow...I like it here." She sighed.

"I like you there.  Easier to protect you."

She giggled again then winced.

"Stop it.  Just relax a while, all right?  Humans are not smart creatures."

"HEY!"

"Shh."

"I -ow- resent that!" She tilted her head back and GLARED up at the Maximal.

His optics were full of fear and worry, completely serious, almost like a parent. "Would you quit it?"

She just looked at him for a minute, then eased back into his side and arm.  The ache from before was now a dull pain.

He wished he could hug her, for some reason. He felt like he'd lost her, lost Omicron, all over again. He felt his spark and fuel pump hammering away in his chest.

Omicron swallowed hard, it was getting harder to breath...He was unaware of her plight.  Her breathing was getting faster and her world started to get a little darker.  What was going on?

"...epth Charge..?"

Hearing her, the massive metal manta looked at her. "Hm?"

The fire was coming back and she gripped his armor, "Fire."

"What?" He looked at her, confused.

Omicron gasped, eyes widening in understanding.  She read about this!

"Omie? Talk to me." He stood up and knelt before her, "What's wrong?"

"...My lungs...the water!  It must have damaged them." The darkness was closing in.  Oh good gods this can't be happening!

"What? RHINOX!" He screamed getting closer to her. "What can I do?"

She looked up into those twin glowing rubies; fear came into her eyes at the thought of Her guardian, her friend...alone again.  Something must have shown what she was thinking.

"No....don't you do that. Don't you think that. Rhinox said you'd be fine!"

Her world did a head first dive then came back again as she doubled over coughing, trying to get her lugs working

Depth Charge screamed for Rhinox again as he patted her back. "No, Omie. Don't leave me alone here. Not again..."

Oddly, she was calm as she looked up at the ray.  "Pardon?" a half smile tugging at her lips.

"Oh, stop that.  Breathe, human!"

"I’m trying, hard ta'...hen...amage like this."  Fire was burning inside her again.

"What?" Where the heck was Rhinox?!

Omicron’s oxygen deprive body was slowly dieing, she tried to place her hands on the Guardian’s face but missed.

Depth Charge took her hand and put it on his face to let her know he was there. "Shh...I'm right here.."

She smiled, not hearing the foot falls of the other Maximals coming their way.  Every thing was turning into blackness, but she wasn't afraid of it.  No.  She was afraid of leaving him.

"Omie!" His voice sounded muffled to her as she began to pass out. The massive manta shook her, trying to keep her awake. "Omicron!"

"...stay...safe...?" she got out weakly, hoping the ray got it.  She told him along time ago about the promise she made to her sprit sister.  If he remembered would he promise too?

"Omie...I can't....I can't live without you.."

"I'm...here..." and she would be.

"I can't." He said simply, accepting the fact that his friend was dying. He'd failed again...he remembered the vow he made to himself...

She tilted her head back trying to see through the haze, would it wait?  Even just for a moment or two?

He wished to Primus it was him instead of her. "I'm sorry.."

A figure stood off to the side of the room, only seen by dieing eyes.  But that was in the foreground of Omicron's mind.

"No." She traced his face lightly, "'T'was...my...bad."

"No, it’s was mine.  I didn't protect you."

"You did...promise me...s'thing?" she rested her head on his, her body losing its feeling.

"I promised to protect you," he said, voice cracking. "And I couldn't."

"Promise...?" she choked, the ghost looked away.  Why didn't he remember?!

"What promise? Tell me what promise!"

"...told...storm it..."

"I don't understand…breathe!"

~~flash back!~~

"I swear I will be strong, I wont cry, I will live again." Omicron was kneeling in front of a headstone.

~~end flash back!~~

(Queen: that was the shortest flash back I’ve ever done…)

She told him about that day, that's all she wanted.  Just him making the same promise she had.

Suddenly it hit him. "Oh!" He shook his head at his own stupidity. "I promise, Omie. .I'll be strong, I wont cry, I will live again."

She smiled.  Thank you.

He gently stroked her cheek, wanting to cry, but not. He couldn't.

The ghost rolled her eyes as the young queen sighed and relaxed fully...for the last time...

"Omie?  Omie!" Depth Charge shook her again. "Not yet!  Don't go yet!  Please...!"

A girl, the same age as Omicron had been walked over.  If one saw her they'd see right through her, she had fire red hair and dressed in silver jeans and shirt that had a red tinge to them.

She sighed at the other girl standing and blinking at the ray and....herself?! Omicron looked over at her sister, "I'm..?"

"Dead? Yep." Firestorm nodded, then tilted her head to the side.  "Drama queen."

Omicron looked back at the ray, "Looks like I’m your guardian angel now."

The two sprits stood by the hunter, one hoping that he'd be okay.

Depth Charge slumped into a sitting position by his berth, staring at Omie's body.  He'd failed again.  She was gone.  His second chance, his best friend, was gone.

Something tugged at the end of his wing.  A faint giggle could be heard.

At first he didn't seem to feel it, but after a second he slowly lifted his head.

Barely seen two young women could be seen, one with fire red hair the other blond with two blue streaks...that one tackled the first and they fell out of sight.  Both laughing and giggling.

"O...Omie..?"

The sprit sisters looked back and grinned

"I'll be here!" the blue-eyed one said.

"And I'll get you for taking so long you drama queen!" the other said as they hugged one another. Then they were gone from sight.  Just a feeling was left.

He watched them, awe-struck. "No, wait! Don't go yet!" He leapt up, intending on looking for them. "Please.."

“We'll be here, even if you can't see us.”

“And don't hurt my body any more than it is!!!!!”

"But I want to be able to see you!" He said, looking around. Sighing, he gave up and smiled a little, "I won't.."

Firestorm whacked her sister upside the head. "OW!" Omicron rubbed her head, wondering how she could feel that as the two stayed out of sight, but were still there.

He looked over Omie's body, slinking down into a sitting position again, deathly quiet. He rested his chin on the berth by her lifeless hand.

Something traced the side of his face softly.

He shut his optics against the touch.

“S'kay.”

"Hmm?"

Omicron turned away and linked arms with Storm her voice trailing "Hey!  Let me show you the crystal beach DC and I found..."

He smiled as he listened to them, and nodded. Omie was happy where she was. He was happy that she was happy, but that didn't help the sudden, drowning loneliness that he felt in his heart.

“I LOVE that beach!  So will you!”

“Omie?  If you want your body to be buried there, TELL HIM!”

“.......eep....I think he gets it now...”

Depth Charge sighed deeply, knowing where to take her now.
