Give them mercy…

He found her crying tears of blood as well as salt.

Depth Charge froze. Not because of the sight of the human’s condition, he’d seen worse after the Omicron massacre. He’d seen all the horrors Protoform X had inflicted on the innocent. Almost all. It was the ragged breath that slowly crept in and out of injured lungs that made the large Maximal stop and look over at the body.

A body that was still alive.

The maximal deactivated his optics as he bowed his head. Taking a deep breath he looked around carefully before moving again, making sure the human wasn’t being use as bait for a trap. His foot falls were heavy with the great weight of lose that he carried.

On full alert, Depth Charge knelt by the human that was shifting ever so slightly to look up at him with her remaining good eye. The last of X's victims on this would was somehow alive despite the state that her body was in, but wouldn’t be for long. The human pretty much had a broken back, a shattered right leg, was missing an eye and despite all of that was still doggedly sucking in air even thought it must have hurt. There had to be more internal damage as well...but she wasn’t dead yet.

Then it hit him. The fallen Guardian clenched his fist as he realized that the human was lying right in the middle of the trail he had been fallowing.

X had left her like this for Depth Charge to find...

“…e…”

“What?” Depth Charge looked down at the human’s near glazed brown eye.

She was trying to focus on him and muttered. It was a gargled sound but she dragged in more air in an attempt to speak. “..e…m….p….”

“E.M.P.?” the aquatic jet asked leaning forward.

The human gave the tiniest if nods, “Works…t…ten minutes.”

An arm twitched and the Maximal’s silver figures stilled it before he saw the round, slat gray cylinder that was clutched in a death grip. It was one of the human made E.M.P. grenades.

“…Thank you.” His deep voice rumbled softly as he took the grenade, looking back up he paused. “It’ll be a while before any rescue--”

A half snort half gurgle cut the Maximal off. The girl chocked and coughed after as she tried to get a little more air into her broken chest. When she could more or less breath again she tilted her head from one side to the other, “M’alread…eee….dead.”

It was true, and Depth Charge knew from the sound of it she was most likely going to drown in her own blood that was filling her lungs.

“H…urts….”

“I know kid, I know.”

“Ssss…stop it…” Once again she tried to focus on him but could quit do it, “Pl…ease…”

Depth Charge looked down at the small but useful E.M.P. device he was given. Taking a slow deep breath put his rifle down and, after another look around to be safe, reached down with his now free hand. “What’s your name kid?”

“…Carter…Allie Carter...”

His ruby optics dimmed for a moment as his large hand covered the human's head, his thumb and one finger sliding under and around her neck as the other two curled around the back, his palm blocking her pained, half glazed stare from sight.

"I'm sorry." He said as the girl shifted a little bit under his hold. “I’m so sorry this happened to you kid, but it’s over now…”

Snap!

Depth Charge took his hand away from the now lifeless body, head low as his spark seemed to contract into its self and giving him a sick feeling of pain and failure stabbed at him from the inside out.

"X will pay...I promise."

……….

Queen’s note: ….Sometimes the best way to save someone is to end the pain, even if you hurt doing so. I think this is just one of those horrible moments Depth Charge had to face after the Omicron massacre and one of the more wicked ‘games’ Protoform X (Rampage) put the fallen Guardian through that made Depth Charge hate him so much. I may expand on this but I may now. I just had to get it on paper before I lost it forever.
