I've posted the beast mode of Eclipse and some bigmouthed a*****e just said that Eclipse(Starshadow and Nightmare's daughter) is unoriginal. Hey, i made that oc without copying anyone. Plus, I'm following the looks of the parents but she looks more like Starshadow. If he says Eclipse is unoriginal, he is also saying Starshadow is unoriginal. See the thread here and tell me your comments about it. I'm so angry.

After I've read the thread, my thoughts were: So what you've seen so many ocs which has bat or bird wings? owners of the ocs like their oc to look like that and you don't have the f****** rights to judge them. In addition, these kinds of fuzor ocs are common already. I made Eclipse the way I wanted her to look like( not copying others) whenever I like it and you don't get to say a s*** about it.
How dare he tell me that. He needs to glue his mouth with super glue, staple it and cover it with alot of musking tape to keep his mouth from blabbering nonsense.
Starshadow and Eclipse is branded UNORIGINAL?!

I actually know who he is (runs Cybertron's Core, an RPG forum). While I have nothing against Starshadow and her design, I do see where he's coming from with that first statement.

Not to mention the fact that felines+wings is a bit cliche in fanart:

(or just search "winged cat" on DeviantART)
And it's used in cartoons and anime:

All in all, I wouldn't be so offended by his comment because he is right regarding the high popularity of winged creatures in fandom (not just transformers). If your feelings are really hurt, then just straight up tell him that you want him to keep comments like that to himself. Also, by allowing comments on a DeviantART submission, you're providing a window for both positive and negative criticism. The only way to shut out the hate is to disallow comments altogether.

Starshadow, I'm not picking sides for this since I know both parties involved, and I see where both parties are coming from. But let me equate this to an experience I had when I first started writing/drawing:
My first shot at doing an original character was Ylandra, who was (as cliche as cliche can get) Starscream's daughter, Rampage's sister, and in love with Depth Charge. She had a mom named Windfox, and many aunts and uncles that I pulled right from G1. I created her to be a child prodigy, who in turn was so smart that she bioengineered her own friends, which were kept in a second dimensional storage space, in a bag, on her hip. Her beast mode, as would have it, was a lioness and raven, a la gryphon, and she was later going to get a special upgrade due to The Powers That Be and become a lizard/bat mix, aka a dragon.
I thought it was the best story I could write, and I was damn proud, and damn defensive of the character I had created. I had put a lot of thought into her, and then someone from an online forum came and burst my bubble. They told me that Ylandra had been done before, had no originality, and had just about every cliche known to anti-Mary Sue-ists. I was angry, I said some things, and I got banned from that forum. It took me weeks to calm down, and when I did, I started to realize that there was a connection going on.
For me, I was a review-floozy who thrived on getting comments and reviews about my stories, but I noticed that the stories themselves had no reviews on FF.net or any other major TF site that allowed comments. Something needed to change, so I started stalking stories that had 25+ comments and read some exceptionally amazing work. I noticed that the author's were doing so well because they put thought into their characters, and their original characters weren't falling head over heals in love with that author's favorite show character and making said character go ga-ga for the OC. Things took time to flesh out, and it made for exciting, hold you on the edge of your seat kinds of stories.
I wanted to be that kind of author, so I started by doing a simple Mary-Sue litmus test with Ylandra. With +5 being alright, 0 being okay, and -120 being as low as you could get on the test, I scored a -115 with Ylandra. I started looking at the character, and one by one went through the questions, reshaping Ylandra until she ultimately became Misery. For as amazing as I thought Ylandra to be, Misery was that much more. Misery had personality, she had a believable history, and when I finally finish the back story and make it to my BW series, she'll have a hyena beastmode.
I may have been angry with that person then, and never apologized to said person, but I thank them because their frankness ended up giving me more reviews, and more online friends, than that person ever has
Long story short, take the criticism, no matter how horrible, and learn from it. It's what I did, and now I've got a character that I know people are reading about/on the edge of their seats waiting to hear more about.
*hugs Starshadow* Hope this helps
