Well, in Transmutate's ep, Rattrap says "What in the name of my great-aunt Arcee is goin' on here?!". I personally think RT was being serious (despite that he jokes about a lot of stuff, but who your family members are isn't something to really about, ne?). What do you guys think?

I've always been confused as to how the Beast Wars could be related to G1 Transformers. I understand that the Predacons and Maximals are descended from the autobots and decepticons, but is it possible for bots to have actual family members? We know transformers can have romantic relations, Silverbolt and Blackarachnia, Optimus Prime and Elita One, and Springer and Arcee are proof enough of that, but can they have children and raise families? I've always been under the impression that the Matrix or Vector Sigma or whatever creates the sparks that make transformers alive and sentient (and not just big, super advanced robots) and that the bodies were mass produced in Cybertronian factories.
In other words, it confused me as to how Arcee and Rattrap could be related by blood...err...mech fluid, heh heh. Also, are Optimus Primal and Megatron actually related to their namesakes? Or did they simply choose to name themselves after the greatest heroes of their respective factions?

Darkspark,
Primal claims that Optimus Prime was his ancestor, Megatron claims to have picked his name from the Covenant of Primus, (quite likely that is where the first Megatron got his name as well.)
As for being related there are a ton of theories about that. It really depends on continuity and how you feel.
For example in the G1 Cartoon Vector Sigma gave Transformer's sparks but the Constructicons (depending on episode), and the Dinobots were built on Earth. But, in the Marvel Comics, the Matrix gave TFs life.
In the Japanese Masterforce manga, the Dinoforce actually has dinobaby mechs, so it's quite possible that some groups create their own 'kids.'
I always figured My Great Aunt Arcee, was a throw away line like the Fantastic Four's Thing's Great Aunt Petunia.

ah well, i still think rattrap wasn't joking when he said that. also, i recently found out that on the original script for episode "crossing the rubicon" rattrap was supposed to say the line again, and blackarachnia replies "not your great-aunt arcee!!!" eh, too bad the lines were cut out of the episode.
