Movie Merchandise - "TF: Ghosts of Yesterday"

Unread post by Nurann »

Now, who'da thunk it? Following the release of the movie are two science fiction novels; "Transformers: Ghosts of Yesterday" and "Transformers" (based on, and pretty much is, the movie) by Alan Dean Foster. If you haven't already picked up a copy of both of these, GO NOW.

"Ghosts of Yesterday" is the "official prequel" to the movie, taking place in the year 1969 at the exact same time as the Apollo 11 launch. This is because good-old Sector Seven has their own agenda to hide in the launch's wake - the launch of "Ghost 1". A sliiiight miscalculation sends the crew of the ship across the galaxy, and right in to the very confused laps of the Transformers! On top of that, back home Sector Seven has their own problems with trying to move project "Ice Man" to its new home down south...
Now, while I've seen better use of punctuation in some of our more local fan fictions, the fact it's a TF novel speaks for itself. It slagging ROCKS as a story in general! However, if you haven't seen the movie (or read the other book first), do that first. It will make a lot more sense, and you will enjoy the book that much more.

For those that have seen the movie, "Ghosts of Yesterday" answers a few questions, such as how the 'bots heard of and found Earth in the first place, and how Megs got to his current location. (Then again, it does leave the odd continuity error here and there, too...)

As for the "Transformers" novel adaption, so far so good. It adds and subtracts a few scenes, gives Maggie and her buddy Glen a little more background, but in general is fairly accurate. Minus Jazz's first line. Movie Jazz gets ten extra points there.
More when I finish the last 68 pages.
