Internet down
Hi everyone,
This is just a quick message from a library computer to let everyone know my ISP has glitched and my Internet is currently down. I do not know when it will be back up but until then my online time is very limited. There probably won't be an update this weekend as a result. :/

Hi everyone,
Just a quick note to say that I have been fighting to get Internetr back ever since I made this thread but it's been one drama after the next. I SHOULD have had it by now, but things move painfully slow here and there is so much red tape in getting ANYTHING official. >_< I probably won't have Internet until after Botcon. I do pop on from time to time when I sign on at the library, but I am afraid my online time is severely limited.

(This rant is also on my DA page.)
I have a very good excuse this time for being absent from the Internet for so long. Actually, I have several, but I'll just mention the dominant reason.
At the beginning of June, the Internet went down. It is a long and hideous story of miscommunication, atrocious customer service, failed call-backs, countless hours of being put on hold and in the end no solution. I'm not going to go into those details because I have absolutely no energy for it. All I can say is (and I don't care who I offend) that Britain's telecoms and broadband services are ABYSMAL. I have never been so messed around and screwed over in all my life. I am absolutely furious.
To help matters, last month the phone line went down. Again, the reason for this is not clear and no one can seem to tell us anything. After weeks of fighting to get answers, we give up, because the family are moving house and the hope is that at the new house it'll be more straight forward to get a phone and Internet. Wrong.
We try to set that up in advance, before we move in. We need to know a simple answer. Which company owns the new house's line rental and what the telephone number is there (and if it's possible to transfer our current number to the new house). British Telecoms have the answers. We phone and a lady says we will be told within 24 hours. 30 hours go by we have heard nothing, so we call them again. We're put on hold. For ages. We then get told, no it's 5 working days we have to wait for an answer. In the meantime, we cannot make calls, or let important services like banks etc. know about our change in address because they also need to know what the new telephone number is, and we don't freaking know. We're also having to use cell phones to make calls, which is HUGELY expensive here.
7 days go by. Nothing. We have no landline to call them so we keep having to go to my aunt's house and run up her bill. We call several times, all the time getting answered by machines or people who do not know a thing, and sometimes we're on hold for HOURS. The issue STILL isn't resolved. It's late August...
So as it stands, I have NO idea when I'll get home Internet. I'm relying on the charity of my aunt who I cannot keep inconveniencing. This is ridiculous.
Til I get Internet I'm not going to get engrossed in anything Internet-related, since I cannot for the life of my keep up. I'm sorry to all my friends I have lost contact with. It's not been deliberate.

Tell me about it. I called up BT in June due to the fact that my home hub died. I was on the line for an HOUR whilst the spokeswoman made me tweak and prod everything on my computer. It was only after said hour of fruitless jiggery-pokerey she was informed by a techincian that there was a power surge in my area, and had nothing whatsoever to do with me. She left me with saying that it would resolve itself the next day. One week later i call up again, get run through the mechanical mill again with the queues and thier PANPIPES OF DOOM..i turn things on, i turn things off, hold buttons, tilt things..when finally it gets all resolved!
.....those panpipes still haunt me.
In all seriousness though, if all this doesn't clear up soon for you, i'd very much recommend contacting OFCOM and make a formal compliant. They sort out complaints for this sort of thing, UK companies pay attention to OFCOM.

Thanks Jagna. *hugs*
And thanks Renegade Artist. I am definitely going to take up some sort of a stand. My aunt, who has been footing the bill for all the calls to BT, has said she's going to write about this drama to the local newspaper. It's terrible that people have to put up with this. We should band together and complain, as opposed to each having private battles. Heh, that's the South African approach. Everyone gets mad at the same time and yells, lol!
