We are now approaching the end of the Robots In Disguise Singles Tournament, with the two remaining combatants squaring off in the Championship Final. And this promises to be a heavy-duty match-up, with armories worth of firepower stocked up on both sides. And to add to the intrigue of this battle... did you ever imagine what would happen if one of the best and most powerful warriors ever had to fight against a "clone" of himself with similar talents, but the complete opposite personality? This match is close to that idea.

In one corner, it's the Decepticon Military Commander Scourge, the dark and evil "twin" of Optimus Prime, heavily armed with a frightening array of weaponry, and completely lacking the mercy of his Autobot counterpart, replaced by extreme hatred. In the other corner, it's the heroic Autobot Commander Optimus Prime, the template of his own opponent. Will Optimus Prime's courage and sense of goodness win out against his foe... or will Scourge's ruthlessness conquer his good "brother"?

This time, it's simple. You only need to pick the winner of the one match. As always, the trick is to pick the more realistic winner in this Championship Final, using the criteria that a win can be gained by (a) forcing a surrender from the opponent, (b) rendering him unable to continue after a 15-second count, or (c) destroying the opponent. The profiles of both combatants, and their respective road to the finals, are here once again for a reminder (along with links to more detailed profiles and pics):

Scourge (Decepticon) – Brutal and vicious leader of the Decepticons’ segment of the Predacon/Decepticon alliance against the Autobots. Physical resemblance evokes a dark “evil twin” of Optimus Prime; personality is nowhere near as heroic. Possesses one of the most calculating militaristic minds of all the Transformers. Massive tanker truck mode is highly durable; robot mode is armed with a pair of dual shoulder-mounted Barrage Attack missile pods, a hand-held dual-pulse blaster gun, and an energon-based Sword Of Fury. Tanker trailer becomes a heavily-armed battle station, equipped with a central rocket launcher, a ripple missile launcher, and an explosive disc launcher. Physical might is rarely equaled among Autobots, Predacons and Decepticons alike, but extreme hatred of Optimus Prime could be an exploitable weakness.

{Defeated Railspike (100%) and Megatron (56%) to reach the finals.}

Optimus Prime (Autobot) – Autobot Leader and hero dedicated to the preservation of life and the defeat of the Decepticons. Fire truck mode can reach surprising speeds in proportion to his size; has an extendable ladder, four hidden missile launchers in the ladder assembly, and dual water cannon. Basic robot mode uses a hand-held compression pistol. Remainder of vehicle mode reassembles to form a battle station equipped with a long-range scanner antenna, dual water cannons, two double-barreled particle cannons, and several weapons batteries. Parts of the station can detach and re-attach to Prime’s basic robot body for enhancements, like forearm gauntlets and shoulder-mounted missile pods. Can also combine with all parts to form a super-sized Battle Mode, with enhanced armor, doubled strength, and adjustable ladder cannon. While massively powerful and intelligent, can also be suckered by a false show of goodwill, leaving him vulnerable to attack.

{Defeated Mega-Octane (70%), then received a Semi-Final bye to advance directly to the finals.}

And, as in the other Tournament Finals, for those who feel a little creative, not only do you get to vote for the winner, but this is your chance to write out a move-for-move description of how you think the battle between these warriors with opposite ideologies will go! It can be long or short, concise or detailed. But make it a good and realistic battle, worthy of a championship final. Use the profiles and abilities of the combatants to whatever potential works the best, and keep them in character. And remember, this is a one-to-one battle, with Scourge and Optimus Prime using their own powers. No outside interference. No additional reinforcements. (Of course, they ARE allowed to use their trailers.) But if you feel like adding a little extra to your written description of the fight -- anything from crowd reactions to making it a cage match -- if it works, feel free to do so. A poll feature has been added to this match, as well.

The deadline for voting and submissions will be Saturday, February 11, 7pm PT, shortly after which the results will be posted, along with some samples from any written battle scenarios, to be posted on all three boards; The Underground Hangar, Autobot.Net, and Beast Wars International.

We have now reached the conclusion of the RiD Singles Tournament to crown our first Champion. While no match descriptions were submitted, there were a few comments in this tough, hard-fought battle. The progress of the battle was interesting, as one side to a quick early lead, but the opposition battled back from a slow start, and dominated the match through out most of the middle. Finally, a comeback was mounted to tie it up, but the question was, would it be enough to regain the lead and win the title... or even stall it for another week by saving himself in a draw?

Because of the closeness of this Championship Final, here are some comments on both sides stating their reasons in choosing their winner:

From ScourgeX/ProtoformX of Autobot.Net and AgesThreeAndUp.com: "Scourge, for sure! He's ruthless, which is always great; and Prime always needs to 'power up' before he is even remotely useful."

From Stelartron of both The Underground Hangar and Beast Wars International: "Ooooo.... another tough call. However... Oppy'll win. Not only is he the good guy (and thus, it's in his contract that he'll *always* win in the end), but he has his 'Amazing-Super-Mode-Armor-Of-Powa!' It's the next best thing to Armada Prime's Battle-pants, and practically guarantees his victory."

And now, the complete rundown of the RiD Singles Tournament's results are as follows:

Round 1:

* Scourge defeated Railspike: 100%
* Megatron defeated Skid-Z: 90%
* Optimus Prime defeated Mega-Octane: 70%
* X-Brawn vs. Sky-Byte: 50-50 draw

Semi-Finals:

* Scourge defeated Megatron: 56%
* Optimus Prime receives a bye

Championship Final Round:
* Scourge defeated Optimus Prime: 57%
