Nightscream was suppose to be a girl? I never knew that. But now for some odd I now had the urge to draw him in a dress. XD

you're right but everywhere I go to find info on transmutate is says 'she" maybe because Susan Blue voiced it/her.
Yeah they were gonna make Nightscream a girl but then changed it. Maybe he wouldn't have been so annoying if he was. Or maybe not...
DO IT SKY!

Yea, his name was suppose to be Bella or something odd like that, I read it when the series first came out, but at the last minute, I think they said they couldn't get a proper voice actor or something they made him a guy.

Oh I think will.
Nightscream: I hate you.
But as Transmutate goes, honestly I always thought she/it was girl since I first saw the episode, I don't know why though.

To me, Transmutate's voice didn't seem male OR female. It sounds distorted enough to be genderless.
But I think they didn't like the idea of kiddies getting confused as to why Rampage might feel such a 'kinship' with something that could possibly, in any remote way, be male.
Homophobia maybe?
NOTE: This is not to say they're anti-gay, it was just my own opinion on things.

Bella?! is that a pun?
maybe they should have asked Susan Blu to voice him or something or maybe the person who did airazor. She CAN change her voice. She voiced Frieza in Dragon Ball and that voice doesn't sound a thing like Airazor's.

I have no actual facts on why they changed Nightscream into a guy, my first assumption was lack of voicing. But who knows the real reason. The name was suppose to spoof something like Belltowers, like Nightscream did a spoof of things (bats, night, scream, echo location..haha, get it? -_-)

yeah I get it. XD But you said bella and I thought "Twilight" since Nightscream's a vampire bat.... O_o

Yeah, that's true. But honestly I though Frieza was female, when I first got into DBZ. Heck, even my brothers who knew more about the series than I did though he was female at first.
But honestly to me Bella sounds like a weird name for a Transformer. But since a certain Mary-sue I'm sure that we all hate, has that name, I think Nightscream dogded a bullet there. XD

I would not want to subject ANY transformers character to that name
If they had made him female they could have given him the same name. I mean it would be like Airazor. That name could go either way.

You know I was kind of thinking, I wonder what it might be like if there was ever a Transformers series' made that had a cast of characters that was entirely, or at least mostly, female.
I mean, just thinking out loud, if the main characters--even whomever the Prime was--was made up of robots with female forms and female voice actresses, do you think the show would be different or any less popular?
Just curious XD

I personally can't understand male robots. That doesn't make sense to me. I'm not looking to pick a fight but why should they all be males or at least male looking?
Like Nurann said, not male, more neuter in gender. What we perceive as a traditionally "male" physique just works better for transformations. Transformers with female proportions are harder to pull off. (See: Thunderblast, BW Airazor, BW & TM2 Blackarachnia, etc.) Plus except for the Beast Era they've been much larger than humans, so deeper voices make more sense.
The only Transformer I'd consider actually, really male would be Movie Devastator.
Also, BM Nightscream was changed to a male for sales purposes. For a TF show, BM already had an abnormally large proportion of females anyways (I mean, three, man!
THREE!!!).
And another TF that was changed to male was Animated Ratchet, who was originally going to be the female Red Alert. (Of course, they let her appear later in a guest cameo in Season 3.)
