What you say is true,he would have the idea to become leader,but his thirst for power and honour is his weak points,something Megatron knows and uses it against him sometimes.
Think back to Episode 1 and Maximal No More.Dinobot has that eager ability to fight and was not resistant to kill Megatron,however,he has his ways to stop Dinobot in his tracks.Even to his most treacherous subordinates still remain loyal to him,and Dinobot was the luckiest one to make it out early and alive,without any damage to his behaviour.Tarantuals went free,but he had his limits and needed his former commander from time to time.BA went off but her personaility changed afterwards.Silverbolt did not count,since he was a Pred for one day.
What if Dinobot remained a Predacon?

It's been said in the thread already. But lets face it, DB brought a heavy load of Soldier/Warrior/Fighter to the Maximals.
Without his blade early on, and towards the depths of character development, later in the show...we..pretty quick pred victory.
That is..if he and Megatron could ever get along, for more then 5 minutes.
