Sooo I got fired...

Unread post by Darkshadow14 »

Just like the post says I got fired from my wonderful gas station job.

So here's the story...

I was dcashering at my gas station on Saturday. At around 5pm-ish 5:10-ish Some skinny blonde girl came in to my work. She asked for a pack of Cigs, okay. Not a problem I asked for her ID. She had an attitude as she was grabbing it, and she was holding it up for me.

Little did I know, that the stupid *beep* was covering up one of the numbers. She was born 12-22-92. But what I saw was... 1-22-92. So I handed her the smokes and gave her the change and everything.

UGH.

Right behind her was an larger man who says, and I quote! "Congratulations you just sold a minor cigarettes!" (sp?)

I went insane and started cussing at the cop. Because it was a cig sting! They set me up. No more then 3 months ago one of the other girls from my work got fired for the same exact thing! By the same EXACT PEOPLE!

I'm pretty sure this should have been in the rant section now that I think about it. Oops.

Wow, that's rough.

If she was covering up a number, than you made a decision based merely on faulty information at best, or you were deceived at best.

Seriously, cops are allowed to do stings, but if they intentionally give you the impression that they aren't minors, then they aren't giving you a fair opportunity to act correctly.

Have any other minors, attempting to buy cigarettes, ever attempted to cover numbers when showing you their i.d.? If not, than this sting wasn't even properly mimicking any situation you've ever had to face.
I understand... you are, after all, a predacon.

Would it have not been right to take the girl's I.D. and examine it out of her hands? Everyone who cards me always takes my license and looks at it. ...But maybe they're trying to memorize my address! Nooooooooooooooooo!

Anyway, that sucks, DS. Sorry to hear that. Does something like this follow you around so you can't get hired at another gas station? Assuming you'd want to work at another one.

OOp, I usually do but their was a huge line behind and I was getting overwhemled since I hate making people wait. Is it my fault? Of course. Stings though, it's so messed up. At my clothing store's they don't ID, and my old grocery store there was no alcohol so again no need to ID!

seems a bit harsh to get fired on the spot though

True, but I don't think that cussing out the cop helped much.

Maybe you could have told him, calmly, that the person missled you with the ID and that you wouldn't have made the mistake had she not done that. granted taking the id and looking at it is what we're supposed to do but some people (young and old) are just too paranoid. The best priority for work is to try and maintain a safe environment. Also, calling the supervisor before continuing with the officer would have helped as well.

I'm not saying that the officer was right, I'm implying that the situation could have been done differently.

Sucks that you got shafted though. Sorry to hear that.

Very, very true WW! But It was compay policy I guess that they fired me. So yelling at the cop wouldn't have really mattered anyways. Lol , one of my customer's was yelling at the cop with me.

It's stupid we just one of other other worker's to this exact same thing, a few months back. So I already knew it was going to happen!

It suxs. But I guess it was meant to happen. Everything happens for a reason, guess it was my time to go. :(

I really don't know if that's the right way to look at it.

Dang, that is totally unfair! >:(

Still, like you said, things happen for a reason. Maybe you're meant to do something else and working at that gas station would've made you miss out on that opportunity.

Things'll get better. You'll see. =3

P.S.- I'M HOME!!! 8D I graduated AIT and now I'm home for a good while. =3

Didn't they warn you that there are people who do that? When I worked at a gas station that was the first thing they told me! 0.o

It's legal, to make sure that station doesn't get a record for selling to minors (they do the same to liquor stores, people wait around outside -the commissioner people who do this, damn can't remember the name of it- and see if they'll check for ID or whatnot.)

So, super sorry you lost your job, but as nasty as it sounds, they were well within their right to do that, and fire you.

Well the other girl who got fired too, I asked here if maybe they told here that undercover cops well come in and do this kind of thing. She swears she didn't hear anything.

I guess I knew they'd attempt but I didn't think they'd be sneaky like that.

(Covering up one of the numbers)

True; I should have grabbed the ID. I don't know there was a huge line, I hate making people wait, and a lot of people get offended when I used to say I had to see it. So I just stopped.

I feel so bored now, just sitting at home looking for another job.

Yea, it was explained that they will attempt to get you to not look at their ID. It's not a police 'sting' it's just tobacco sellers actually. It's representatives that go around and do this at random, there's usually two done a month (with the mystery shoppers coming in also).

Still, again, sorry you lost your job. In this market, that's tough..

That's what I was thinking. I work in a pharmacy so I card people multiple times a day, and every time I make them take it out of their wallet and hand it to me (even if they give me attitude). I did the same thing when I worked as a cashier and sold alcohol and cigarettes, as well. Sorry to hear about your unfortunate situation, Darkshadow, but try maybe you can use this as a learning experience with your future jobs! Corny response, I know, but keep your head up :)
