I don't know where everyone finds their backgrounds for their sigs. They always look awesome, though. I usually make a background from scratch, use a screenshot, or take photos of something and manipulate it to fit the color scheme of the sig, etc. The software I use to make my sigs is Photoshop (I LOVE Photoshop). But perhaps Warwulf, Alak, Darkshadow and anyone else who makes them can help you out more, starshadow. In the mean time, I'm getting back to coloring your OC.
I usually like to create backgrounds that flow with the render. Since yours was created with Paint (assumption), I can only imagine using Paint to make a sig that looks good. However, if you can make a sprite version of your OC, I could give it a shot with photoshop
YES, Alak has beautiful sigs, and they are the ideal maximum size for this forum, too. *makes an example of Alak* Btw, hello Alak. Welcome to the forums.
Most pre-made backgrounds really can't compete with customized ones. Those built from scratch are intentionally made to work and flow with the provided render. Blending would be a huge problem since you really can't just paste a render in front of another picture and say it looks good.
The problem I have is when the medium and style of the render don't work with the rest of the compilation. I base my background largely on photomanips of the original render to get the right light and balance. Then I sprinkle a few brushes here and there, couple overlays, blurs, and other goodies... and there.
It may look pretty, but I'm sure a keen eye would be able to pick up on the parts where it just doesn't work with the render. I should have gone for a more posterized style, but, eh...

Thanks! Unfortunately, I don't make as many sigs as I used to. That makes keeping up with graphics forums pretty hard. I have been dropping by GFxResource lately since the administrator was a guy I respected from Gamerenders.
