The Other War
by Shane Saunders (narf117@hotmail.com)

Somewhere...

The Beast Wars had ended for Air Razor a while back... or at least that’s what they believed. Her “death” was rather mysterious. Of course she wasn’t really killed. Just... misplaced.

She woke up in the middle of nowhere. With no trace of her friends or foes. Had they all been killed? Had they finally found a way off the planet and left without her?

Unknown to her they were still there. Thousands of miles away but still there. She was just lost.

That was almost a year ago. She had managed to survive. She was even able to build herself a home. Her solitude ended when the first stasis pod landed. Then the second. Then the third.

She knew that her friends were out there somewhere. She knew that if... when... she got back, the would need help. Her new found friends would provide that. A hawk, a mole, a frog, and an elephant. That’s all she had.

Hopefully her new team would be enough for what was to come.

Maximal Base... no, not the Axalon...

“Move your metalic butt Leapfrog, those supplies were needed an hour ago and your hanging around picking flowers.” said Drill Bit.

“Why do we need all these things anyway?” asked Leapfrog as he rummaged through the package he was carrying. “Why are we making weapons for a war that may or may not exist.”

“It exists. Air Razor would not lie. What would happen if the Predacons found out about us and attacked. We would be defenseless. Even if they don’t, we still need the supplies for once we find the others. Now hurry up, we have to get these to base.”

Just as Drill Bit finished his sentence a barrage of blue energy blasts came from the sky. A bat swooped out of the sky dive bombing at Drill Bit. As Leapfrog watched he didn’t notice the green leathery tail swinging at him. It hit him right behind the knees and sent him straight to the ground. A wolf leapt at Drill Bit, pinning him to the ground.

Above the commotion Leapfrog could hear the words “Shell Shock, Terrorizes!”. He transformed and began to fire off random shots in the direction that the noise came from. He crawled to his feet and looked over in that direction to see a robot standing there blocking his shots with a shield that appeared to be made out of a turtle shell. Drill Bit burrowed into the ground to escape the wolf and popped up right behind a giant boulder. He was soon joined by Leapfrog as his body sailed through the air and landed beside him headfirst. He skidded a few feet and came to a halt.

“This is just prime,” muttered Leapfrog as he dusted himself off. “Okay, so you were right.”

At that moment the ground began to tremble and screams were heard from behind them. They both turned and peeked over the boulder to see their attackers being trampled by a giant elephant. The elephant transformed into a gray robot and rolled behind the boulder with Drill Bit and Leapfrog. By this time all three were firing their weapons.

“Air Razor sent me when you guys didn’t come back on time,” said the elephant.

“Thanks Tusk, but I don’t even think the three of us could take them on,” replied Leapfrog.

Without another word Drill Bit had dug a tunnel wide enough for even the elephant to fit through. Within a few minutes they were back at the base explaining what had happened to Air Razor. “I knew this day would come. The Predacons have found us.”

Somewhere else...

A shadowed figure leaned over in his chair.

“Lupin,” he said as he glared at the wolf, “you could not destroy the mole?

Before waiting for a reply, the figure shifted his gaze to the crocodile.

“And you could not subdue the frog Jawbreaker?”

Again without waiting for a reply he looked to the bat

“You, Darkwing, are just pathetic, you made one attack and gave up.”

Finally he rested his eyes on the Shell Shock. Before he could do anything, a grey claw snapped forward from the shadows to grasp him around the neck.

“The next time that you come back without even firing a shot, I’ll slag you for spare parts.”

The shadowed figure leaned forward further to reveal a gray face wearing a yellow visor.

“Now go out there... AND GET IT RIGHT THIS TIME!!!”
